Zoo baby!!

Alrighty! It's been quite some time since the last post...

Obviously, blogging is a wee bit more time cosuming than I'd ever imagined. Even as I quickly type this I've been distracted by a phone call, a child & a loving spouse. So to make it short and sweet...The Superdads just rocked the Philly Zoo (just look at those monkeys) for their PARTY FOR THE PLANET event. We had our mugs posted on a 15 second ad on 6ABC News in Philly. The day was beautiful, warm & lots of happy families joined us on Saturday.

The next day we were at the Philly Library @ a really cool looking (old fashion) basement theatre. thanks for coming out for that concert!

Saturday, April 26 we're back at (yet another Philly location) The Kimmel Center!

Looking forward to it!

Rock on!

A very memorable night

Last night was memorable for a few reasons:

1) Danny & I performed each other's songs collectively on stage singing harmonies, & having a ball!

2) Kim, Danny's lovely wife, & illustrator of many children's books got the kids going with hand movements & sign language to two songs.

3) We opened for Mr. Ray, & saw him perform.

But the MOST memorable part of the event occurred AFTER the event...

4) I ran over Mr. Ray's famous stickered guitar after the show!

No, it's not what you're thinking...whatever you might be thinking.

Here's the story:
After the two concerts ended & all the parents & kids were gone. Ray & I were chatting while loading up the cars. We said goodbye, & I jumped into my car to drive out of the parking lot. I drove 10 feet when I heard Ray exclaim, "No!" I stopped to see Ray's horrified expression. In disbelieve I looked down at my rear drivers side tire with Ray's soft guitar bag under it. Apologies flew. "Oh, I am so sorry," I said. "No, it's my fault. I shouldn't have left it on the ground," Ray returned. We moved the guitar gig bag a bit, but couldn't release it. Ray suggested I gently move forward to release the bag. I inched about a foot forward. Ray opened the gig bag & the guitar was...unbelievably fully intact & unscathed! Whew!
Ray, I hope we get to gig again, but this time I'll wait for you to drive off first.

Didjya catch the SUPERDADS video on Comcast Channel 21 on Thurs. Fri.? It was a live 38 minute concert on local access (CH 21). Those in the Toms River area caught it. We'll have clips on the Yosi and The Superdads page soon. In the meantime you can see PICs from the video on the PHOTOS page.

WE PLAYED Longwood Gardens YESTERDAY. IT'S GORGEOUS ...& THE SOUND WAS THE BEST OUTDOOR SOUND WE'VE EVER HAD. 700 PEOPLE SHOWED UP FOR THE SHOW, & DURING THE Umbrella TUNE THEY TURNED ON THE FOUNTAINS BEHIND US...THE KIDS WENT WILD!

Superdads video

OK, so things have been busy. Crazy busy in fact. Hannah graduated 8th grade. She's going to High School! Yikes! Jonathan finished preschool. Matt & Nik are on to 4th grade next year. We had a couple of nice days at the beach. Mostly, I've been gearing up for summer concerts. We've also shot a 38 minute live concert for Comcast Channel 21 (local access) with 20 kids (who were picked at random). Unfortunately, the AC was off at the studio so it was sweltering hot!! We managed a fiery performance (I know, bad pun). We'll let our fans know about dates the video will air & most likely post clips on Youtube.
Speaking of Youtube...check out MY FLAG: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nGPxgx9fsuI

I'm pretty proud of the syncing of images to sound. Folks seem to enjoy the whimsy of THE White Stripes pic.

Enjoy!

Happy 4th!
PS - new interviews on Indie Kids Rock ...Rob Reid, Joe McDermott, Jarrett's Punk Farm & a review of Danny Adlerman's "Listen UP!"

SuperTour

Superdads had a mini-super tour this past week starting with Somers Point (NJ) Bayfest on Sat, April 28. This was a three concert day (three sets) by Yosi & The Superdads in the cool breezy air. It was overcast & we didn't realize until we left that each Superdad got a SuperTan...or more accurately a sunburn. Still it was loads of fun & we were glad to rock the kids young & old.
Next was the Westfield Preschool Balloon Parade on Wed, May 2. Over 1000 kids, teachers, & parents from 7 different preschools were on hand for our full band concert. Lots of happy bouncy families. Also each school had their own color shirts & balloons. It was quite a site with a rainbow of hundreds of balloons carried by young ones. What fun!
Finally, Sat. morning May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) the superdads traveled to Philly to perform at the World Cafe & later drove up to the Coexistence Festival in New Brunswick, NJ. It was fabulous day & crowds seemed to really enjoy the shows.
We're taking a short break from the mini-tour & will be back on the road in June. See: http://www.yosimusic.com/concerts.html

200,000!

That's a heck of a lot of miles! The YosiMobile tends to get cranky these days. And who could really blame her? She's not old. Only about 6 yrs, but she's got lots & lots of miles, & lots & lots of memories. A prized token is a small angel pin I keep on the sun visor. No, I'm not an angel believer, especially not the Angel of The Highway, (protect us). But, it was a pin sent to me by the grandparents of a little girl who "just loved my concerts." They felt I should have it. So, it went in the minivan. Most days I forget it's there. Kinda like you forget there's a hazard button on the steering column. But I know it's always there & this angel (the little girl) is somehow with me through the many miles. Been with me to Florida. A few trips to DC, Philly, NYC, CT, VA, MD, DE & way too many to count in the Garden State. Family outings, rides to gigs, shopping, etc. In a million years I would've never picked this pin to adorn...err...anything. Perhaps a Keep on Truckin' pin would be closer to my speed for a little kitch. But then I suppose it wouldn't have the same delicate sensibility of a dotting grandparent.

Fave Punk/New Wave discs

Had a chat with a friend about fave punk & new wave discs. This was a tough list to compile because there are SO many great albums. Many of the artists have several titles that could easily end up at the top of the list.

Here are my Top 10:

1) The Clash: London Calling

2) Sonic Youth: Sister

3) Iggy & The Stooges: Raw Power

4) X: Wild Gift

5) Buzzcocks: Singles Going Steady

6) Joe Jackson: Look Sharp

7) Sex Pistols: Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols

8) Ramones: Rocket to Russia

9) The Cramps: A Date with Elvis

10) The B-52's: The B-52's

Depending on the mood & the day I can easily substitute these bands with the likes of: Devo, Dead Kennedys, Fugazi, Bad Brains, The Pixies, XTC, etc.

What are your Top 10?
